The Missouri Emergency Response Commission has hired Regional HAZMAT Coordinators. The coordinators will soon make contact with us. They will also assist in providing training to our HAZMAT Team

Three incident were reported between April and June 2008:

  • 20 March 2008 - 1101 S Beacon: A home owner reported to the Sedalia Fire Department leftover pesticides. The Sedalia Fire Department over-packed the items and they were picked up by DNR. (Although happened in March, was reported in this quarter, because it happened after our 1st Quarter LEPC).
  • 10 April – Best Brands: 2000 lbs anhydrous ammonia release. Release happened in the plant. The plant is currently for sale and no one was in the plant at the time. The Sedalia HAZMAT Team responded and made contact with plant officials. The leaking valve was shut off, and the plant was allowed to air out.
  • 20 May 2008 – Gardner Denver: Approximately 5 lbs of mercury from a manometer leaked. A private contractor was notified and removed the mercury.

Dave Clippert gave an overview of upcoming exercises. The Northern and Southern Health Districts will conduct an exercise on 18 June 2008. The SIMCELL will be located in the Sedalia-Pettis County Emergency Operations Center. An exercise will also be conducted sometime in the early fall with Bothwell Regional Health Center.

The Heartland Emergency Response Exchange (HERE) applications were discussed. Dave Clippert has already applied for access. The HERE will allow us access to Tier II reports; they will automatically be installed with CAMEO and will be available with Google Earth.

We have requested $4895.00 in LEPC funding. Funding will be used to pay for a laptop for the Sedalia Fire Department. PEAC-WMD software, radio batteries and general LEPC funding.

The Emergency Management Mutual Aid status was discussed with an overview of the program.

Dave Clippert handed out his press release on the NOAA All Hazards Radio raffle. NOAA Radios have been donated by local civic groups and will be raffled off on 18 July 2008. Any citizen of Pettis County may contact the Agency and register to win one of around 20 radios.

Dave gave and overview of the storms so far this year, and how EMA has responded to them.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:45 AM.
